MISSION STATEMENT

Our Church exists in order to worship God, to enable people of all ages to respond to the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ, and to work in love and fellowship for God’s kingdom on earth

INTRODUCING CHRIST CHURCH

Christ Church is unashamedly Catholic in its tradition, its history, its worship and its mission.

Our main Sunday celebration is the Parish Mass at 10.15 am.

Our building is imposing; our liturgy is modern catholic with traditional ceremonial.

Our congregation is open and diverse in terms of age and background.

Lay men and women of the congregation participate as eucharistic ministers, readers, intercessors, sidesmen, altar servers and singers.

In line with our foundation, history and theology, Christ Church Parochial Church Council has passed Resolutions A, B and C pursuant to the Priests (Ordination of Women) Measure 1992, although it has not been necessary to invoke Resolution C

The church is open before weekday mass, so that all may come in and find peace and stillness, and pray before the Blessed Sacrament reserved at the high altar.

MISSION AND WORSHIP

The source and summing up of our life in Christ occurs when we unite to celebrate the Mass.

The holy sacrifice of the Mass has been offered daily since the foundation of the building. It forms the springboard for all our mission, outreach and pastoral care.
Worship at Christ Church centres upon the daily Mass and Offices, extra-liturgical devotion to the Blessed Sacrament and the sacrament of penance.

On Sundays, Mass is offered at 8am. The main service is the Parish Mass at 10.15am. Our liturgy facilitates ‘full catholic’ worship expressing the beauty of holiness; colour, light, music, vestments, incense, dignified ceremonial; all these things arising from an incarnational faith, which flows into the life of the community around us.

Sunday Evening Prayer and Benediction is celebrated during the afternoon once or twice each month.

The daily Mass is offered at varying times;
• Monday 10.30 am
• Tuesday 10.30 am
• Wednesday at 10am there is public recitation of the Rosary led by a lay person or priest, followed by mass at 10.30am. Once a month the Wednesday Mass incorporates Laying on of Hands and Anointing.
• Thursday 8.00 am (suspended in the interregnum)
• Friday at 6.00 pm (fourth Friday " monthly Mass of Requiem).
• Saturday 10.30am " usually offered in honour of Our Lady and the Shrine at Walsingham.
On Saturdays a priest is available in church at 11.00am to celebrate the Sacrament of Reconciliation, to anoint, to offer counsel or to talk things through.

Other confession times are made by appointment.
The clergy of Christ Church see this as an important part of the priestly ministry, but one which is currently in need of active encouragement
